Vehicle class guide
Class depends on height measured at the front axle and total axle count:

2-axle vehicles, height ≤1.3m measured at the front axle (motorcycles and many cars).
Class B (route-dependent tariff)
2-axle vehicles, height >1.3m measured at the front axle (vans, motorhomes and some tall SUVs).

The toll in detail
From Milan to Rome the motorway route runs along the A1, the single road that links Lombardia to Lazio across roughly 645 km.
At the toll booth, a Class A car pays a toll of €45.6, with VAT included. This is the real fare charged when you exit, not an estimate worked out from the distance: the amount matches what is actually debited at the booth and is cross-checked against the motorway operators' own calculators.
Payment can be made in the lanes reserved for Telepass, which let you drive through without stopping, or in the lanes that accept cash or card. The figure quoted applies to Class A vehicles only. Heavier or larger vehicles, which fall into the higher toll classes, pay proportionally more according to their category, so the amount above is the reference for an ordinary car making the full Milano-Roma run.
