How Italy's highway toll system actually works: take a ticket at entry, pay at exit, accepted payment methods, vehicle classes, and what to expect at the toll booth.
Italian tolls are based on distance traveled and vehicle class. Rates are set by individual highway operators and include 22% VAT.
Both have 2 axles: Class A measures ≤1.3m at the front axle and Class B >1.3m. The rate difference varies by operator and route; there is no fixed percentage surcharge.
They are planning estimates. Each result labels its source and method; toll stations, operators, mountain sections and open/fixed systems can change the amount. Confirm with the operator before travel.
