The toll in detail
Driving from Rome to Naples — the route linking Rome, in Lazio, with Naples, in Campania, runs the whole way along the A1 for roughly 249 km. It is the main artery between the two cities, with no need to switch motorways along the route.
For a car (Class A) the toll at the booth is €16.5, VAT included. This is the fare actually collected at the barrier, not an estimate worked out from the distance: the figure matches what a car genuinely pays at the exit, cross-checked against the motorway operators' calculators.
At the toll plaza you can pay by cash or card in the staffed lanes, or pass through without stopping in the Telepass lanes. Heavier or larger vehicles, which fall into the higher classes, pay a proportionally higher rate than the one applied to cars.
